Course #: 800
CEC’s: AFAA

Aging Strong is about understanding where you are now, not how you used to be, mentally and physically so you can learn to make more balanced choices for life, fitness and health. I will teach you to use my training system to define, correct and change habits in order to influence the decisions we make. I will demonstrate and provide easy to learn movement techniques that will show that we move affects how we think and ultimately how we feel in the choices we make from nutrition to living our lives. This will give you a road map to follow, which can lead to a more centered life with less overuse, wasted energy and discomfort. This lecture will describe how aging and exercise is not a losing battle and that there is a perfect balance to how we need to train and move at every stage of our lives.

Balletone® Sole Synthesis
with Shannon Fable

Thursday 4/17/08 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Course #: 805
CEC’s: ACE 0.4 AFAA 4.0

A new program from Balletone® designed to teach you the basics of Balletone, and provide a method to fusing the principles of this amazing workout with traditional fitness and yoga to build a functional fitness program with ‘sole’. Sole Synthesis is “simplicity through triplicity” … barefoot training meets strength, cardio and flexibility. There are no fancy moves here. The idea is to simply use a movement you’ve done for ages and transform it seamlessly in three different ways with ONE outcome – a proactive workout rooted in functional training that will leave you strong, centered, and actively flexible from the ground up. Specifically designed to attract three times the crowd, learn to use traditional fitness exercises you know and love and transform them into Balletone phrases and Yoga postures for three times the workout. Begin with a fitness move and MASTER THE MOVEMENT - simply change the focus and intention to get more from your participant, all without picking up a dumbbell. Next, transform the fitness element into a Balletone® inspired pattern which adds long lever, dynamic and active flexibility patterns in a variety of planes and FLOW THE MOVEMENT. Finally, use a non-traditional Yoga posture to CALM THE MOVEMENT – moving through poses while adding feet exercises and shoulder girdle stabilization techniques while allowing participants to refocus and recover, readying the body for the next challenge. Be ready to take your shoes off, learn about barefoot training and see just how easy it is to get more from your students without changing too much or using equipment! Elevated functional training in the group fitness room that’s sure to make you sweat!!

Thursday 4/17/2008 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Course #: 807
CEC’s: ACE .9, AFAA 8.75

Say good-bye to the myth of the “delicate” condition and hello to pregnancy in the 21st century! Current research continues to show that women can safely exercise and maintain their fitness level during the perinatal period. Women who continue to exercise regularly throughout their pregnancies are less likely to need medical intervention during labor and delivery (i.e. pitocin use, forceps delivery, etc.) and experience less time in both active labor and during the second (“pushing”) stage. They also gain less fat and recover more quickly then sedentary pregnant women. With these findings in mind, more and more women are starting an exercise program or continuing to exercise during their pregnancies. The result is greatly increased need for fitness professionals with the knowledge and skills to design and implement specialty programs for this population as well as the ability to safely integrate these women into conventional fitness settings. Exercise provides innumerable benefits before, during and after pregnancy. Learn how to increase your client’s self esteem and enhance their well being and find out all the wonderful ways to help the body prepare and “train for the main event.”

This training course covers very detailed information in a user-friendly format. You will discover the benefits, risks, and overall effects of exercise in relation to each phase of the perinatal period as well as take part in a demonstration. Healthy Moms® pre-postnatal fitness class.

Topics include: “Project Pregnancy” - Preconceptual Exercise Planning, benefits of exercise, heat exposure, nutritional concepts (appropriate weight for height, vitamin-mineral supplementation, eating habits, vegetarianism) and intensity guidelines.

“Training For The Main Event” – Pregnancy and Exercise: Physiological and anatomical changes of pregnancy, overview of fetal growth and development, basic obstetric tests, stages of labor and delivery, labor medications, client screening technologies, 1994 ACOG Guidelines, aerobic exercise, strength training, nutritional concerns, relaxation strategies, marketing tips and the latest research findings regarding pregnancy and exercise.

“Postpartum: Returning To Your Fitness Goals,” Physical and emotional changes, basic foundation or restorative exercises, abdominal and pelvic floor rehabilitation, aerobic exercise, strength training, stages of post partum depression, breast-feeding and other nutritional concerns.

The optional take-home exam will test the practical application of the information presented using an essay type format.
